A very important yet not too well known cog in the wheel of music is Blind "Arthur" Blake, the virtuoso American ragtime and blues fingerpicker who recorded some of the most advanced guitar music in history. He is in a league of his own for both originality and skill and Blake's music has influenced many musicians and artists. Blake played fast, intricate runs with moving basslines and a playful style, all while singing his often funny lyrics. There really is no-one to compare him to. Details about Blake's life are sketchy, but he is thought to have lived from 1896 to 1934. He recorded around 80 songs between 1926 and 1932 and we are very lucky to have so many recordings of his music. Blake's music was the dance music of its time Blind Blake - Diddie Wa Diddie - Great Vid Showing Blake's Lasting Impact
